Handloom products constitute an integral part of the India’s heritage and culture. Showcasing various vibrant aspects of the cultural heritage of India, the handloom sector provides employment, directly and indirectly to over 43 lakh handloom weavers, belonging to socially and economically weaker sections of the society particularly in the rural areas.

Varanasi has a rich cultural heritage and Banaras silk sarees and crafts are an integral part of the Indian landscape. Varanasi handloom makes India proud of its heritage. The handloom and handicraft products of Varanasi have got wide recognition all over the country and abroad for their highly artistic design, colour combination, superior craftsmanship and long durability.

Keeping in view the vision of making the handloom and handicraft industry of Varanasi and neighbouring areas, market oriented and for generating productive employment, the Government of India is setting up of a Trade Facilitation Centre and a Crafts Museum to develop and promote the handlooms, handicrafts and silk products of Varanasi and to provide necessary help to weavers, artisans and entrepreneurs of Varanasi for boosting their marketing activities in domestic as well as international markets and carry forward the rich tradition of handlooms at Varanasi.Hon’ble Prime Minister of India laid foundation stone of Trade Facilitation Centre and a Crafts Museum on 7th November 2014 at BadaLalpur, Varanasi.

Your valuable views and opinion is sought on the concept and facilities/services to be provided in the Trade Facilitation Centre and the Crafts Museum at Varanasi.

along with the Trade museum why we cant set up an international Handloom Expo house which has display rooms of 10x10, where the local crafts team can display their products and get their bulk orders? Why we cant set up such Handloom and craft museums and permanent trade exp houses in each state or atleast one on south, east, west and north nearer to locations of atraction or airport. #TradeFacilitationCentreandCraftsMuseum, #Varanasi, #HandloomProducts #MinistryofTextile, #MyGov

Great initiative. Recognizing an art inspires an artist to bring his best out. Along with that, the weavers should be trained by experts in fashion technology, adapting their work according to the trends. Quality is the mantra. If the product has quality, it automatically sells.

Hello Sir, pakistan is disturbing us since post independence, why we are always giving so much of importance to those foolish people of pakistan. We should close all door and windows which opens towards them. No talks, no trade, no entertainment for those foolish people. We will give things in cheap rates and in turn they give bullets and bombs. And whatever people our army catches they should we executed in front of public. Why we are feeding Yakub from past 23 years. Regards, Sumit Verma

... All this should be linked to the Varanasi Center through ecom platform or brick & mortar setup. In my mind, there is a bleak reference to the Swaroski Museum in Wattens, Austria

...HPM: The center should conduct/facilitate R&D in creating new blends so as to keep the handloom more relevant. The products should be aggressively marketed as not only as Made in India but as Conceptualized in India. International airports in key global cities, trade fairs, summits should be tapped to showcase the products. It will not be a bad idea, if the ladies & gents in the ministries wear sarees or suits made of these products ( these products do look very elegant & stylish)...

Center should also provide platform to the NextGen of the weaving community. HPM: The center should conduct/facilitate R&D in...

Two points: 1. Center Concept & Marketing (CCM); 2. Handloom Product & Marketing (HPM). 1. CCM: Should represent India center than UP center in design. 2 spaces: General Public (GP) & Trade GP should should link Indian history of handloom with the latest fashion possibilities through demos, interesting DIY projects, regular Fashion shows (so need for ramp, audi etc.) & projects for youth (rural to ignite interest in them) For trade: identify key stakeholders eg, institutions like NIFT..
