It is important to treat animals well because: a) Nurturing animals develop values like empathy, compassion, loyalty and sense of service towards wildlife and society at large. b) Animals ensure optimal populations across ecological levels and foster ecological and environmental stability. c) Killing of animals for meat increases methane emissions and climate change. d) Reduces human-wildlife conflict and ensures sustainable coexistence. e) Though animals feel pain and pleasure, they are unable to express their feelings in an intelligible manner and requires human assistance. We extract milk from cows and buffaloes not accounting for feeding needs of calves. We need to reflect on pain we feel, if humans are subjected to similar punishment and deny our children nourishment.
