With globalization and liberalization of Indian Economy in last two decades, numerous domestic and international companies have been drawn to investing in new modes of business/ business models targeted at the huge domestic market especially in the consumer goods & services. Direct Selling is one of these modes where goods /services are sold directly by the producer/service provider to the consumers. For this different models such as Multi Level/Network marketing, Door to Door Selling, Online Selling, Tele-shopping are being used. These practices are new and different from traditional retail through shops. In the absence of a proper regulatory framework, retail through these models leads to consumer grievances, trader’s issues, slow growth of the sector etc.

The aim of this discussion is to deliberate and evolve views of all stakeholders for providing a regulatory framework to the sector.

COSTING OF PRODUCT NOT PROVIDED/MADE AVAILABLE TO CONSUMER:Mother Plant takes cost breakup for every product purchased from every supplier to check the genuineness of profit given to suppliers. But cost break up is not provided to consumer, hence the consumer is not able to check the genuineness of profit given on the product purchased. Beneficiaries are mother plant, the distributor, the whole seller and the retailer. Suggestion: Cost break up showing profits of above should be with items.

Nigerian fraud has been flourishing since so many years, but it has not been nipped in the bud.The administration should invite public help and support by way of reporting the mobile number or email id from where the fraud SMS or Email originated and proper action should be taken to book that source. So many Poor vulnerable people have been cheated of their hard-earned savings,so far nobody has been booked.

even after so many years of Consumer Protection Act,1986 what recourse does the aggrieved consumer have? only consumer courts -where still-1)advocates are a necessity,2)judges are not appointed for years together and cases get piled after receiving date after date,3)consumer receives same treatment like ordinary courts wait for years and then one may or may not get justice.Clearly Justice Delayed is Justice Denied.4) for each and every small matter the poor swindled consumer cannot go to court
