With globalization and liberalization of Indian Economy in last two decades, numerous domestic and international companies have been drawn to investing in new modes of business/ business models targeted at the huge domestic market especially in the consumer goods & services. Direct Selling is one of these modes where goods /services are sold directly by the producer/service provider to the consumers. For this different models such as Multi Level/Network marketing, Door to Door Selling, Online Selling, Tele-shopping are being used. These practices are new and different from traditional retail through shops. In the absence of a proper regulatory framework, retail through these models leads to consumer grievances, trader’s issues, slow growth of the sector etc.

The aim of this discussion is to deliberate and evolve views of all stakeholders for providing a regulatory framework to the sector.

World wide, Direct Selling is a large industry (I see that it is approximately a $170 billion industry). And it gives tremendous amount of opportunity to people in the country. It gives a level playing field for all. No Big investments required, no Education background requirement, no Major skills required. If an individual is ambitious and is looking for an opportunity, then this industry gives that. And many of the Good DS companies are providing excellent skill development too.

Amway is pioneer in the Direct Selling Industry since for more than 55 years and 16 years in India. Till today there has not been clear cut regulations in place to safe guard the interests of the Direct Sellers. Kindly therefore make regulations that will curb fraud companies surfacing and protect the consumers and the Direct Sellers. Thank you.

Sir, I am an Amway business owner. This business opportunity gives you freedom, freedom of working, freedom of time, and freedom of income. As India has youth and unemployment also. We want to encourage youth to be an enterpriner and set up their own business, this opportunity provides training and skill development of people. So, I request our law makers to give us a concrete policy for us that help to create good atmosphere. Thanks a lot.

Sir, thank you very much for exempting health insurance premia for senior citizens from service tax. It will really boost the health insurance amongst the senior citizens. Now it must be made mandatory for all PSU insurance companies to redesign their health insurance for seniors by lowering premium rates and also covering the pre-existing diseases in the policies.
