my views on preventing further degradation of Ganga at Varanasi:
1.No further construction development along the banks of Ganga. the area along the banks be declared as GREEN Zone.this is to prevent direct pollution frOM people settled in the vicinity of the river.
2, this GREEN zone will also prevent floods which is very prevelant due to environmental changes, desilting, and also develop an ecosystem along the river.
3. The famous ghats of Manikarnka and Harishchandra, which have religeous connect with cremation of bodies, should be connected by boat pick up points from the various edges of Varanasi city, this will stop the dead bodies from being transported through the city and thus reducing the overcrowded city.
4. The Varanasi city is very difficult to develop unless the masterplan for a Adhunik Kashi Municipal Corporation (AKMC) be developed. the city should be developed on the roads going towards Jaunpur, Azamgarh and Balua townships. a RING rd needs to be made.
5. SARNATH should be protected as a TOURIST ECOZONE. NO highrise buildings should be permitted. only tourist centres, temples, educational and hospitals and low rise premium colony to be permitted. this is the face of Varanasi to the visitors.
6. The city needs to be self sustaining. There is a need to have a IT, Back office and skilled job source in Varanasi. This city and its adjoining regions central and east UP and Bihar have a lot of emmigrant population who are settled in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune,Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi seeking for a job. There is no blue collar job opportunity between Delhi in west, calcutta in east and Hyderbad in the south.
7.The influx of population to this city needs to be controlled else the facilities planned will again be overstressed
