Water will not stagnate, environment will not be polluted nor will mosquitoes or flies breed if we simply vow to change our habits. Just by simply changing our habits the health budget can be curtailed to a considerable extent and that can be utilized for other developmental activities. This message need to be sent out loud and clear by the government. Also the importance of preventive measures for improving health need to be highlighted.

In participatory governance it is also equally the responsibility of the citizens. It has been generally seen and observed that people are very cautious about keeping their house sparkling clean, but don't care about keeping their surroundings clean. By force of habit no matter they spit, throw garbage and do other types of unhealthy activities when they step out. The main reason is that people only seem to have a sense of belonging to the house in which they live and not with the city or nation

Diseases of any kind whether vector borne or otherwise are finely linked with cleanliness. Treatment of vector diseases is a later stage. The first priority is prevention. The environment in which we live determines our life style. A lot many diseases can be prevented if we simply change our life style and habits. Prevention is better than cure as the old adage says. The responsibility for ensuring cleanliness is not solely on the government.
