Government of India has put in place a liberal policy for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) under which FDI up to 100% is permitted through the automatic route in most of the sectors/ activities but some sectors require prior Government approval for infusing FDI with sector specific conditions. In the last one year Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) embarked upon a number of initiatives with the objective of improving ease of doing business and simplifying the investment process. Further, in this regard, the DIPP has now initiated an exercise for preparation of identifying applicability of the FDI Policy para as per each identified activity provided in National Industrial Classification Code 2008 to provide greater clarity and simplicity to foreign investors. Under this exercise codification had been started off with the NIC-2008 code book indicating against each entry as to whether FDI is allowed therein, and if so, it is on Automatic or Approval route along with Para no. of FDI policy.

A draft list prepared in this regard by DIPP is as under. The comments and suggestions from the stakeholders/ investors are welcome for the improvement, if any, latest by 30th November, 2015.

The mapping is a administrative action. As a business owner, I would like to know the philosophy behind FDI - why shoud we not allow FDI in a area. Also will be nice to use technoogy better. Have a single portal where the propoal can be uploaded and the status monitored real time. Will help accountability. We can do this easily. Will boost ease of doing business.

Smart cities project is more or less like congress ruled big scams. Lot of money and stakes involved. Why people from other cities will bother. Its like we have follow the government for whatever policies they wish to make. But certainly govt lacks the vision what country needs on ground. govt should honor its promises of easing the people's life. Inflation at all time high. Cow Ban and preservation is just on mouth and no concrete action at place. Modi Govt seems ineffective at all areas.

Opposing same kind of policies being in opposition and granting them being in power shows nothing is going right. 100% FDI in sector means dark future for Indians. Indians shall be ready to do jobs in foreign companies in coming days as these giant corporates will destroy Indian entrepreneurs will demolish them with huge money and power what we can see the concept of online business in India. With foreign funding online companies such as FLIPKART SNAPDEAL PAYTM have ruined local businesses

Before we make Smart City, we have to make our citizen smart. Economy and education are two must for a smart citizen. Let’s first build the infrastructure that bring economic growth. Education infrastructure is already there but we need to focus on the skill development of the people of Haldia which will lead to employment generation.
