Lack of livelihood opportunities for tribal people is one of the chief causes of their backward status as compared with the other social groups. This issue is aggravated by the high rate of displacements faced by tribal people due to various industrial projects etc., which also causes loss of livelihood for them among other things. This Ministry has been taking various steps for facilitating sustainable livelihood for tribal populations in different sectors. Stress has been given on vocational education and formal technical education for tribal youth. States are being encouraged to take upskill development initiatives for tribal youth with at least 50% of such activities to be oriented for women.

Through MyGov, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs seeks suggestions/information from all sections of the society regarding various livelihood possibilities for tribal people, availability of skilled/unskilled manpower still unemployed, various traditional skills available with the tribal population, new trends and interests among tribal youth, corresponding skilling needs and possibilities etc.

In every village including tribal villages, there should be a small center for skills development. It should have equipment to be used for training, with pictorial how-to manuals. Use of this facility should be free. Users going on to become professionals can be asked to donate a small portion of their income to maintain the facility. This would engage village population in good activities instead of bad habits like drinking, gambling etc in free time.

Opportunities for win-win situations for tribal people, environment and local economy should be explored. Direction and incentivisation should be provided to get people engaged in ethically good businesses like fruit gathering/farming, traditional handicraft, handloom, tailoring, etc. Traditional handicraft practices should be slightly modified to make artifacts more presentable at international level and then linked with trade & tourism. Tree-felling for fuel, poaching etc must be discouraged.

Our CM Honorable Shri Raghuwar Das is doing a lot for upliftment of tribals. Some steps have already taken and it seems that his vision and mission for upliftment of the state as a whole would bring the state a developed one. Help of the Central Government has always there.Obviously it will take some time.I am very satisfied by State Government initiatives.

Self help groups can be formed in adjoining tribal villages of forest. The groups can be given the responsibility of protecting forest. The tribal people should have free access to the forest. There should not be any restriction for them to collect Non timber forest produce(NTFP). They must be trained in value addition of NTFP and market facilities can be provided on co-operative basis. Other than these tribal people no one should be allowed into the forest. By this we can protect forest also
