As part of the 'Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, a series of events are being organized by the Government of India to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence.

Through this MyGov activity, we aim to revisit history and acknowledge our local heroes whose struggles during the Freedom Movement have not received prominence in the conventional storyline. Let's raise awareness about our freedom struggle & the unsung heroes associated with it. It’s time that the contributions of fighters like Veer Gundandhur, Velu Nachiyar, Bhikaji Cama, etc. see the light of the day.

This is your chance to tell the story that must be told and honour the freedom fighters who have played an important role in making our nation free.

Share the stories with all the details and celebrate Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with us.

The latest of such concerns translated into the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The MDGs were a sequel to the SDGs. The MDGs marked a historic global mobilisation to achieve a set of important social priorities worldwide (Breuer, Janetschek, & Malerba, 2019). However, in spite of the relative effectiveness of the MDGs, not all the targets of the eight goals were achieved after being rolled out for 15 years (2000–2015), hence, the introduction of the SDGs to continue with the development agenda. As part of this new development roadmap, the UN approved the 2030 Agenda (SDGs), which are a call to action to protect the planet, end poverty and guarantee the well-being of people (Taylor, 2016). The 17 SDGs primarily seek to achieve the following summarised objectives.

Sustainable development relates to the principle of meeting human development goals while at the same time sustaining the ability of natural systems to provide the natural resources and ecosystem services upon which the economy and society depend (Cerin, 2006). While the concept of sustainable development has been relevant since time immemorial, it can be argued that the relevance deepens with the dawn of every day because the population keeps increasing but the natural resources available to humankind do not. Conscious of this phenomenon, global concerns have always been expressed for judicious use of the available resources.

INDEPENDENCE IS not the contribution of a few leaders but the saga of sacrifice of thousands of foot soldiers. The freedom struggle was the best of times when men and women, transcended the barriers of class, caste and creed, submitted themselves to the worst torture and dedicated their entire lives expecting nothing in return. Many even did the supreme sacrifice without bothering about their families, which ultimately got ruined. "Our agony is that we have seen such gems and also are seeing the current crop of self-serving politicians," lament Gandhian activist C.S. Ramakrishnan and veteran Congress leader P. Kuppusamy. Rummaging through their memory, they present a few thumbnail sketches of those who gave everything in those hours of darkness. The Kongu region gave birth to the luminaries of Independence movement like Dr. C. Vijayaraghavach ariar (Grand Old man of India), C. Rajaji (the first Indian Governor General), Dr. P. Subbaroyan (Union Minister), T. S. Avinashilingam Chettia
