As part of the Government of India’s vision for Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with MyGov invites citizens to actively participate in the initiative themed “Role of Tribal Communities in Viksit Bharat”. This initiative aims to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of India’s tribal communities in shaping a sustainable, inclusive, and progressive nation.

Participants are encouraged to share their ideas, suggestions, and perspectives on how tribal knowledge systems, cultural heritage, sustainable practices, and community-led models can serve as guiding forces in India’s socio-economic, cultural, and environmental development.

Discussion is open to all Indian citizens. Selected ideas may be featured in national publications, exhibitions, and included in policy-level discussions.

Article 46 mandates the state to promote the educational and economic interests of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and protect them from social injustice and exploitation. 2. Article 350 allows the right to conserve distinct languages, scripts or cultures.

What is the role of tribal communities in preserving and conserving forest? Rotational Farming and Grazing: Tribes such as the Gond, Pradhan and Baiga of Madhya Pradesh practice Utera farming, sowing the next crop before harvesting the primary one to utilize existing soil moisture. They also employ the Badi cropping system, planting fruit trees along peripheries to prevent soil erosion.

What are the objectives of tribal communities? Identification of tribal resources and making the indigenous knowledge/unique culture as a means of livelihood. Organization of exposure visits on the range of development issues. Promotion of tribal languages and dialects for developmental communication.

What are the activities of tribal communities? Traditional Economic Activities: Many tribal communities engage in traditional economic activities like hunting, gathering and subsistence farming. Example: The Jarawas of the Andaman Islands rely on hunting and gathering for their sustenance.

What are the main functions of tribal society? These tribal societies were usually groups of people who had kinship bonds. These tribes were mostly involved in primary activities related to agriculture or animal husbandry. Some of them are also hunter-gatherers. Out of these tribal societies few tribes were also Nomadic.

What was the role of tribal communities in forest management before British colonization? In most of the cases three kinds of authorities claimed their right over the forests. First were the village communities who claimed their right to cut wood, collect produce graze the cattle and extend their cultivation in to the forestlands.
