Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has prepared a strategy paper entitled “National Strategy on Additive manufacturing (AM)” for promoting various verticals of the AM sector, including machines, materials, software and designs to leverage the untapped business opportunities that will unfold in the near future.

Additive manufacturing (AM) is the digital revolution of industrial production that embraces innovation in digital processes, communications, imaging, architecture and engineering to provide digital flexibility and efficiency to manufacturing operations. India needs to adopt an integrated approach towards this emerging technology in all segments including defence and public sectors, especially within the nation’s small, medium and large-scale industries to keep pace with rapid global manufacturing prowess.

Considering the importance, the strategy aims at promoting the creation of a conducive ecosystem for design, development and deployment, and to overcome technical and economic barriers for local manufacturers to seamlessly adopt Additive Manufacturing. This is also expected to facilitate the creation of a support base of domestic manufacturers for setting up of operations with supporting ancillaries in India by foreign companies as well as Global AM leaders.

Hon Sir, GST is the very good tax substitute of VAT, EXCISE AND SERVICE TAX. Easy to calculate and filing of returns are also smooth process. Only thing is the credit of tax as the dealer could not assess that his supplier have paid the tax or not. In this situation many of the Froud dealers are active and issues the fraud tax invoice by not paying the tax, registering on their sub staff name or any other fraud and other name and making the scam of big amount of tax theft.

The following incentives are suggested: a) A reduction in percentage of performance Bank guarantee commensurate with percentage cost of components where AM is used. b) Waiving of bank guarantee in spares contracts subject to at least 50% of spares being manufactured using AM. c) Above incentives to also apply even if a component is manufactured using hybrid techniques I.e conventional casting/ machining and AM.

AM has potential in defence manufacturing. However, this requires certain degree of experimentation. Experimentation is necessitated as options for use of metals in AM is extremely limited. Thus experimentation needs to be undertaken to certify usage of metallic materials usually used in defence equipment. Usage of non metallic materials has a greater potential in defence equipment components. Unfortunately inadequate work is presently being undertaken in this field. Incentivising AM is way ahed
