As per the recommendations made in NEP 2020, a set of standards has been developed to ensure that all students at all levels of school education are taught by passionate, motivated, highly qualified, professionally trained, and well-equipped teachers. National Professional Standard for Teachers(NPST) would help in determining the attributes of the teachers at different levels of career pathways. In addition to this, NPST focuses on preparations, practice and performance improvement of all teachers. The standards and related policies are in line with the fundamental principles given in the NEP 2020 to provide high quality education to all. NCTE was mandated by the Ministry to formulate a guiding document and platform for operationalizing NPST.

National Professional Standard for Teachers (NPST) will monitor the design of pre-service teacher education program. This could be then adopted by states and determine all aspects of teacher career management, including tenure, professional development efforts, salary increases, promotions, and other recognitions.

In this regard, a draft document on NPST has been developed by NCTE after incorporating ideas and suggestions received from experts of various domains. The draft document has been released on November 17, 2021 to invite the suggestions and feedback from all stakeholders.

NPST will aim to improve the teachers’ personal and professional development by providing them an understanding of what is expected in terms of their performance and what needs to be done to enhance the same.

NPST is a public statement of what constitutes teacher quality. It defines the work of teachers and makes explicit elements of high-quality, effective teaching in 21st century schools that will improve educational outcomes for students. It will govern the teaching profession in the country in relation to its professional role.

Logically good proposals. But the big question remains unanswered that how it would be implemented with non-cooperative state governments and non-existent infrastructure? Education is state subject. State governments have different political agenda. Government institutions lack teachers and infrastructure. Teachers are more interested in tution. Private institutions have only one agenda to make money. Institutions run by NGOs are often involved in promoting religious activism or conversions.

The examinations must be based on examination on practical. The Indrustry /Institutions dealing with publication, must be involved to put practical problem before students to solve them I ndividually or in a small group and as per the solving ability the teachers will be evaluated. That means the focus must be on practical refresher training of teachers rather than training on theory ,so that teachers can deliver the same to students and the fundamental knowledge of students will be strong

Please change the syllabus of history. In our school only teach about Akbar's rule and Mughal History. we are Indians so please teach us about Maratha's , Rajputaan's , brave hindu warriors etc. history. You can also add the extra subjects of Ramayan , Mahabharat etc. which represents the devotion to god.

National education policy must ensure literacy to all, even at the age of retirement and the standard of teachers should be judged through practical domain knowledge on the subjects. The conventional recruitment policy should be altered in a manner that pupils could get global exposure not only through theories but by hand to hand practically in a classroom environment. The high-level technical committee can ensure transparency in the recruitment as per global parameters for the next generation

Teacher should be that person who loves to teach, so selection process of a teacher should judge the love or passion for teaching of the person who wants to be a teacher.
