The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, under the Sagarmala Programme, intends to create an ecosystem for the development of Ro-Ro (Roll-on, Roll-off) ferries and waterway transportation throughout the nation. When compared to traditional modes of transportation, this method of transportation offers a number of advantages, including shorter travel distances, cheaper logistics, and less pollution.

The draft guidelines aim to standardise and streamline the development and operation of ferry services, as well as, promote ease of doing business by reducing delays and conflicts, Additionally, guidelines will aid in boosting private players' confidence, hence expanding their involvement and encouraging healthy competition in such ventures.

The draft of Guidelines for Operationalization of Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ferry service along the coast of India is issued for public consultation for seeking feedback and suggestions.

Coast line should be connected with the Cannel and River. If we start this it would reduce the pressure on train and road transport. And carrying cost should be reduced highly. People will get job.Crowed on the road should be lower down.Fishing and agricultural should get help. Tourism will increase.

My suggestion is, Seaports should be like airports with all the world class facilities, design, security,& in every other aspects. Ferries should be spacious & should be world class in all the aspects including facilities, design, security, safety, build quality of ferries etc... Ferries rate should be affordable for the travellers. They should be convenient for the travellers. If there are goods carrying ferries, then proper world class safety & security should be given. There should be strict customs check in the ports like that in airports. The frequency of the ferries is important. Based on the number of travellers, frequency of the ferries should be alloted. Whatever the ferry services is being provided in coastal region should also be provided in the delta region of rivers in all the parts of India. Ferries should be equipped with trackers. How the aeroplanes are tracked through radar similarly ferries should be tracked through satellite. Ferries & seaports should be clean.
