JIYA RAI MAKES HISTORY AS FIRST GIRL WITH AUTISM TO SWIM ACROSS CATALINA CHANNEL Swimming against the odds, Ms. Jiya Rai, a 17-year-old girl with Autism Spectrum Disorder, has become the first female para-swimmer in the world to successfully swim across the Catalina Channel of USA in solo swimming. Jiya accomplished this solo swim, covering a distance of 34 kilometers in 15 hours, 01 minute and 43 second. Remarkably, in the 100-year history of Catalina Channel swimming, Jiya is the first girl with Autism Spectrum Disorder to achieve this feat. She started her heroic effort on mid night on 25 Sep 2025 from Catalina Island, and finished at San Pedro, California in the afternoon of 26 Sep 2025. Jiya has dedicated this swim for Autism awareness In 2024, she successfully swim across the famous English Channel in 17 hrs and 25 minutes and become world youngest female para swimmer to swim across Channel in solo swimming. She is recipient of Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2022
