The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday (September 9, 2024) the case related to the murder and alleged rape of a junior doctor at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. According to the cause list uploaded on the apex court's website, a Bench of Chief Justice D. Y. Chandrachud and justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra is slated to hear on September 9 the case, which was initiated by the top court on its own.

"Discussions including the threat syndicate, Health Secretary and corruption took place. Further discussion will take place. Until the promises are turned into reality, decision of ceasework will continue. After the Supreme Court hearing on Tuesday, we will take final discussion in consultations with all Medical colleges," a student representative said after the meeting

The doctors’ stir over the rape and murder of an RG Kar Hospital medical student on August 9 had entered the 38th day on Monday. The meeting started at 7 pm and continued till 12 am.

Altogether 42 doctors signed in the Minutes of the meeting, Manoj Pant also signed in the Minutes of the Meeting. The junior doctors, while leaving after the meeting, said, " There were certain agreements and some disagreements. Our five point demands were heard and discussed. Some points were positive while others were not so. We will go back and discuss on ceasework and other issues. The Commissioner of Police's resignation has been accepted. We will speak after the meeting," Junior doctors said.

A committee has been formed under Chief Secretary and they can place their demand and grievances. "We have appealed to the junior doctors to join work as there is a flood situation, dengue and malaria. So I urged the doctors to get back to work," she said.

"We are not disrespecting these people. I have accepted the doctor's demands and decided to remove DME and DHS, keeping their demands, so that commoners should not suffer. However, the Principal Secretary cannot be removed at the moment. Few more changes in Kolkata Police will be given listening to the doctors demands."

"We have given importance to the junior doctors. Their first demand was the CBI probe. They had four other demands-DME, DHS and Principal Health Secretary's removal. We have decided to remove DME and DHS from their posts," the Chief Minister said, adding "Deputy Commissioner-North will also be removed."

Banerjee said doctors have no faith in the DME and DHS. Making changes in other posts in Kolkata Police, Banerjee said, "We have listened to the junior doctor's demand and decided to remove the Commissioner of Police. Vineet Goyal was eager to leave the post and he had told the doctors. We will also bring changes in Kolkata Police after 4PM tomorrow and the new Commissioner of Police will be appointed and take charge from Goyal after the Supreme Court hearing. Vineet has agreed to resign. DC-North will also be removed and who will be replacing them will be decided tomorrow."
