The new set of sample factories will determine the estimates based on current factories with its present activities to ascertain the robust picture of Indian economy as a whole. The opportunity is also develops to think over the proposed methodology to be adopted for designing the index. The National Statistical Commission will provide the guidance to get reliable results for incorporating interventions for Vikshit Bharat.

The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) is one of the most essential indicators used to measure the growth and performance of a country’s industrial sector, especially in manufacturing, mining and electricity. It shows how much production has increased or decreased compared to a base year. Because industries keep changing over time, with new companies entering the market and old units closing down, it becomes necessary to keep the IIP updated so that it reflects the true position of industrial activity. One important method used to maintain this accuracy is the substitution of factories. Substitution of factories simply means replacing old, closed, non-reported or irrelevant factories with new and active ones in the data collection system. Since the IIP is based on monthly production reports from a fixed list of factories, any change in these factories directly affects the accuracy of the index. If a factory that was included in the original sample stops working, shuts down permanent.
