On Independence Day – A Strategic & Economic Perspective In the current global environment , especially the ongoing U.S. tariff measures , it is imperative that we should review the land border sharing clause in our procurement policies. While we acknowledge that many products are not yet manufactured domestically, we are confident that India will eventually design, develop, and produce them. However, there are certain commodities that, even if produced locally, may not achieve globally competitive prices in the near term. This should not stop us in putting efforts but till then, denying ourselves access to proven, cost-effective technologies from certain neighbouring countries may deprive us of healthy competition and technological benchmarking. Recent tariff actions have shown that the U.S. prioritizes its own economic interests first a reality we must accept, however inconvenient. Vikas, MA English Literature, UoA, UGC NET/JRF Aspirant — This draft is not charity; it is justice. It makes accessibility a default, not a favour — embedding universal design, multi-sensory features, and digital compliance across all products, from kitchens to lifts to payments. It aligns BIS, NBC, IS 17802 with ADA, EAA, ISO, ensuring India leads in inclusive innovation. Three imperatives for success: time-bound enforcement and independent audits with fines and recalls; capacity building for industry, MSMEs, and design education; participation of persons with disabilities at every review stage. If implemented with urgency, India will set a global benchmark where no citizen is left behind — fulfilling the ethos of Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah.

The draft accessibility standards for the products sector as a positive step toward inclusion. These standards should ensure that all products are easy to use for persons with disabilities through features like tactile/Braille labels, easy-open packaging, high-contrast designs, and accessible instructions. Implementation timelines, proper certification, and strict monitoring will help make these standards effective. Accessibility should not be seen as optional but as a basic requirement for every product.

NMMC talk about segregation of dry and wet waste. I keep two separate disposable bags for dry and wet wastes. I have noticed the NMMC workers dumping the wet waste and dry waste collection from the waste dumping Cans kept on the streets into one large black garbage bag. NMMC should look into this matter seriously
