In the recently concluded Rio Olympics 2016, India sent its largest ever Olympic contingent comprising of 118 athletes. Despite the large number of athletes, the Indian contingent managed to bag only 2 medals in the Games viz., one Silver medal in Badminton and one Bronze medal in Wrestling. Considering the size of our country it can be said that the present performance was not up to the country’s potential. Views/suggestions are invited on what specific steps need to be taken to realise full sporting potential of India in forthcoming Olympics in 2020, 2024 and 2028.

The Govt of India can do many things to improve our performance in global sports events, like having only proven sports administrators heading sports bodies (not politicians or babus), give adequate funds to select sports bodies which can bring glory to India (putting in money into EVERY sport is futile). Also, there should be transparency in choosing sportsmen representing India without any bias n "quota". Also, encourage private sector to fund sports (incl. in their 2% CSR spend).

1) create clusters for various sports based on the geographical, historical aspects of the region . for eg : Kerala state can be a hub for water sports like rowing, skiing given the geographical advantage of backwaters of the state. Haryana and Madhyapradesh known for wrestling. Andhrapradesh and Telangana for Badminton. 2)PT class should be mandatory as a part of school education. 3)Early recognition of talent by specially allotted team for every village panchayat. 4) Best infra facilities.

We shd really encourage sports frm the school time,we should really encourage it as a career rather than jus a hobby or a way 2 stay fit.our govt should provide infrastructure for olympic sports and even our media should cover these sports al round the year rather than jus during big tournaments.we see these sports jus as a hobby and hence evry individual is busy finding a livelihood rather than playing game for nation and bring glory

Unless and until politics in games is present, same poor show will go on.We dont even notice the great talent hidden in our tribal children. If we go on finding in tribal areas of our country, I am sure that India will bring at least 30-40 medals in coming Tokio games. Many Usain bolts are present in India also but they have remained unnoticed always. So please focus on AADIWASI children and select them only considering their skilss & abilities. plz plz leave biased nature of selection process.

dont select the players by castes r rich family..make d people to put interst by conducting tournaments to reach popular like ipl, isl, pro kabaddi..select d players by well talented skills not by money.....then india becomes d champion in every sport....
