Waste management is an important requirement for ecologically sustainable development. Efficient sorting of waste is a major issue in today’s society. The main goals of this discussion are to come up with solutions for the following problems using technology as a tool.

1) Reducing waste production
2) Ensuring that wastes are properly disposed
3) Recycling and re-using disposed products

“Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” or the "Clean India Mission" is India's biggest cleanliness campaign that aims to accomplish the vision of "Clean India". Waste management is an integral part of this campaign. To assist the “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” initiative, projects may be setup to create products which are solar-powered trash receptacle and trash compactor that alerts sanitation crews of municipal authorities, when it is full.

Also E-Waste (obsolete, discarded, broken and surplus electrical and electronic devices) is of immediate and long term concern as the industry is unregulated and recycling can lead to major environmental degradation posing a major threat to human health.

Internet of Things (IoT) is a new generation technology which allows integration of small devices/gadgets with web based system .The devices send signals through sensors using constraint application protocol (CoAP), Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) etc. and interact with the web-based system using the HTTP protocol, So the existing solution architectures are getting extended.

We would like to welcome your ideas on how a smart waste management system using IoT can be implemented in order to achieve the target of “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”.

Leveraging technology in waste management everywhere is key to make India clean and green. I have always seen are railway stations which collect a large footfall collecting lot of waste , following measures are suggested:/ All trains should have automated wastes vacuum suction equipment installed in the brake van under carriage to clean sip and collect the muck from the tracks in the vicinity of railways stations . The waste collected is automatically contained in a receptacle .

heard about a European country running out of waste and its waste treatment plants does not have more waste left for treatment. why can't India import technology from such countries and invest some money in that direction. Set up waste treatment plants at district level. sewage waste can used for generating biogas.

Just introduce the iot technology into the dust bins, so that the municipal can know about which is ready for unloading. This service is to be managed by 24X7 hrs by arranging manpower in shift basis. Using this method some how we can manage by low cost. This can be possible in cities even if any better improvement later on we will implement.

1. Involve producer of packaged goods in recycling. Responsibilities should be fixed how they contribute in recycling efforts. Instead of sell and forget, they should play active role in recycling of waste generated. 2. Part of CSR could be used for recycling efforts 3. Dustbin in societies, public places could be sponsored with advertising message.
