Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Besides imposing ban on the use of plastic carry bags / cups / plates which might take a longer time for implementation, the citizens should be aware of the proper ways of disposing these plastic items. Instead of throwing these hither and thither which cause choking of drains and affects the organisms living in the soil which in turn effects the ecosystem, public should understand the hazard caused by these and so dispose these in the right way.

Its fantastic effort by the government, but the task doesn't ends here... some new challenges are.. how to carry liquids without it how to store the things by preventing it from moister without plastic how to pack milk and flour kinda things.. etc. so we have to think about the it, and have to provide a replacement of plastic polymer. But must be in favor of nature. We can use Papaer Bags/JOOT Bags/Cloth Bag/Wicker Basket for vegetables/fruits or some other goods, but what about liquids

polethene is much more hazardeous substances because it is not easily manufactured and recycled instead of that we can use bamboo baskets and natural bags made up of composed materials.

Imposing ban on plastic products is not enough it should be stopped from the first step i.e. is from production point only. It a basic economics which says, availability of product itself creates the demand for its own. So, the only way to impose ban upon the plastic product is to stop ban on the manufacturing from it.

I want to share this message that one of the reasons for disastrous flood in Chennai is because of polythene bags. People who are really sick and lazy never throw the wastes in garbage even if it's located there. the civil authority don't provide those different bins like degradable and non-biodegradable ones. A chemistry professor Vasudevan has given a solution to reduce plastic, he has suggested to use plastic while roads are laid so that they withstand longer even during heavy rains. See the

Ban on plastic may not work in cities. i have seen in our old days that all our old items were taken by rag pickers at a price. if we can promote rag pickers to collect plastics at a price that would promote home doers to store and sell it to make some money out of it. instead of throwing all over. also chips packets need to be replaced with reuseable paper packet would be better ideas..

nice step towards eco friendly society and many are saying that people will start using paper bags or other stuff when plastics will be banned but I want to tell the converse will be much more beneficial.Make sure the alternative is available in parallel with the prohibition of plastics. And one thing FOR SWACHH BHARAT TO BE A SUCCESS.KINDLY INSTALL DUSTBINS AT APPROPRIATE PLACE.ITS HARD TO FIND A DUSTBIN.SO A RESIDENT LIKE ME HAS NO OPTION BUT TO TAKE IT ALL THE WAY TO HOME!!

first the production of plastic carry bags/cups/plates would be stopped. If that product will disappear from market then automatically citizen would use cloth bags, steanless steel or glass plates and cups.so not to use plastic bag becomes habitualise rather than ban on plastic bag/cups/plates
