Dams already in various stages of completion in the uppermost reaches of Ganga are doing more damage to fragile Himalayan eco-system n irreversible in nature. AND doubt how much downstream revival would work!!

we can do daily daily cleaning activities by boats , steamers like in Sabarmati in Gujarat. we should implement 1 penalty of 5 times of the product which is disposed or through in GANGA . we can place cameras which are season proof , water proof for seeing the tourists activities. where thes are not possible like in villages , we can appoint the PRADHAAN of that village to take responsibility to clean GANGA MAA

Raw sewage should not be dumped into the Ganga. Educating those whose lives and livelihood are dependant on the Ganga is the key.

Long back, when I had visited Prayaag raj, I found the Ganga Stream jumping up to about a feet or so above the water level. And when I visited the last Maha Kumbh , there was little sight of the same. That is the main reason for the loss of cleansing capability of the Ganges. Turbulence of the Ganga used to be very high prior to creation of so many hydro power plants across the Ganga. All pollution control scientists know that it is the turbulence that breaks down the things and the Oxygen oxidi

We should study and learn from cases like GE had in past . They were once accused of polluting a river in us and they did ensure that the river was treates properly. We need to ensure proper awareness as well social volunteers and nukkad naatak will be best for this. We can think of running a contest for groups playing these. Private partnerahip will help in this mission.

Main problem of Ganga pollution is plastic (bottles, polythene). So, there must be a ban on plastic in nearby areas. Plastic is not easily biodegradable. So, It accumulates near the bank and jam other garbage. The plastic is also main problem of other river and nalas. Instead of plastic bag use paper bags.

All major cities are along the rivers. Look at Paris, London , New York and their rivers. Shift all the people 500 m away from the banks and make walking trac/ garden along banks of river in India. Politicians need to be educated in this matter as they demonstrate when unauthorised juggis are removed. The city council need to be made accountable for disposing rubbish/ sewage in the rivers. They should be charged in courts for polluting.

Irrelevant question. When the infrastructure is not able to handle the current level of tourists, what's the point in increasing them? Put the horse (cleaning) before the cart (tourism)! Improve sewerage and water infrastructure, clean the Ganga, upgrade hotels and public facilities, then there will be capacity to absorb more tourists. Once there is hygiene and sanitation, the Ganga can be showcased with pride to the world.
