“The earth, water and the air are not a gift to us from our parents but a loan from our children.” ---Anonymous

Energy resources have transformed human lives and lifestyles. Energy resources have allowed for human achievement and ambition to move from the potter’s wheel, farmer’s plough and the weaver’s loom to space missions and robots among others. However, the modern world looms in the shadow of a severe energy crisis: the result of unsustainable and inefficient use of energy resources.

Unsustainable and inefficient energy consumption threatens the very basis of life as we have come to know it. In the face of the increasing scarcity of energy resources it is imperative that we launch a committed, concerted and cumulative effort towards holistic energy use habits and sustainable consumption patterns.

Energy conservation most importantly means that conservation becomes an all pervasive habit, an everyday philosophy and practice that aims to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, adoption of energy efficient lifestyles and fostering innovations in green and clean energy technologies.

D&NHPDCL invites suggestions, guidance, comments from citizens, self-help groups, environmental organisations towards developing Energy Conservation as a habit towards an energy secure future.

Hello! I recently came across this article, where a bus is run on biomethane generated from human waste. Such buses have been running in some European countries. It will be great if India could start atleast a few experimental buses based on this method. It will be a new step to try alternative sources of energy. Also, it might give a newer way to treat our sewages in a useful way. Here is the link : http://qz.com/299871/all-aboard-the-uks-first-poop-bus/#b03g28t20w15

Make public transport easy, comfortable. We need metros. Encourage car pool. Make buying card unaffordable in comparison with benefits and ease of public transport like Singapore. Give income tax rebate or any other benefits so people use public transport. But public transport needs to be improved first. We still do not have metros.

A part of road in many of our cities are dedicated for BRTSs. Apart from carrying public transport, the roads lie unused. We can encourage a Limited Quota Car Pooling by corporates in which if employees agree to certain conditions, Govt can issue limited passes with a fees for the people who use car pooling in the office. Benefits. We are generating revenue by utilizing unused road. We are conserving energy by using 1 vehicle for 4-5 employees. Employees can reach office faster & safer way.

Central and State Governments may like to first start energy conservation practices in government bungalows and flats. Since government bears the cost of electricity in these bungalows and flats, it is seen that these bills usually skyrocket. Government may like to make all government bungalows and flats pure solar/other renewable energy based so that it saves precious fossil fuels, saves govt expenditure and sets a good precedent for citizens to follow.

Usage of more Solar energy is the need of hour. There is no proper initiative by State Govt. Central Govt. must take serious view for encouragement by initiative law, rules for installation of solar energy equipments in the new building, new complex, new developing sectors etc. so that current pressure may be reduced on electricity.

There are so many ways of conserving energy. But our will power , constant supervision and govt. support is required for the same. We could start using bicycles instead of using petrol / diesel driven vehicles and start sleeping on roof instead of sleeping in home and using cloth bags instead of polythene.
