Under UJALA scheme, the main objective is to promote efficient lighting, enhance awareness on using efficient equipment which reduces electricity bills and helps preserve the environment. Efficient light bulbs, like LEDs, consume only one-tenth of the energy used by ordinary bulbs to provide the same or better light output. So, we ask you to suggest ways for promoting the use of LEDs on this open discussion forum.

Offer replacement of old CFL and other bulbs at competitive prices. Take advantage of State Electricity Board network and increase sale especially in villages. Also can arrange sale at Gram panchayat Office which is easily accessible to all. Also start on line sale with leading e commerce companies like flipkart snap deal amazon, etc.

LED bulb initiative is good for nation as it saves energy .in my view following steps should be taken too encourage its use. 1.Start exchange offer give LED bulb in place of regular bulb at 50 % discount to people. 2.Give tax benefit to industry/company who change all bulb to LED 3.Also give 10% discount in light bill who change all bulb to LED. 4.Make compulsory for all government organisation/PSU/Banks/corporation/colleges to change all their bulb to LED.

Although I wanted to utilize the subsidized LED bulbs offered by govt of India, I'd great difficulty in knowing how to procure then in Chennai. Looks like some state govts don't support this initiative at all. Until then, govt of India, should make these subsidized bulbs available thru online retailers like flipkart/ Amazon/ shopclues etc. that people can see the benefit rather than struggle to even get these bulbs.

In my view..... 1. Govt. should be bane all old bulbs production and sale. 2. Govt. Should promote the production of LED Bulbs 3. Govt. Should be distribute at least Five LED Bulbs free immediately 4. Govt. Should be supply the LED Bulbs with all Watts Category at subsidies rate because if maximum LED bulbs would be use, automatically energy would be save. 5. Govt. Should be reduced price of LED Bulbs, so that all category of people can be purchase.

Making people start using LED is difficult as they are accustomed to tubelights and bulbs, plus the cost of LEDs is high. Proper advertisement is neeeded to encourage people and funds can be used to provide LED lighting in villages. Also, all electircity stores, etc. in cities can be given incentives to promote sale of LEDs rather than CFLs or tubelights.
