Electronic waste (e-waste) creates a global crisis due to environmental degradation. India, as a growing economy, is facing serious challenges in managing the volume of generated e-waste due to lack of environmental awareness and socio-economic issues. Major concern of e-waste management in India is its recycling undertaken by non-formal sector not adhering to health and environmental norms.

While e-waste poses a problem for the environment it is also a source of valuable resources and contains a number of precious metal and mineral resources, which are available in very limited quantities in nature.

While Ministry of Environment and Forests and Climate Change is involved in enacting laws, guidelines referring to e-waste and has formulated the E-Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2010 wrt safe handling of e-waste, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) has addressed indigenous technology development through its R&D efforts to recycle e-waste and extract pressure resources following environment and health norms.

In this direction DeitY has initiated a demonstration plant to showcase its developed technology of processing printed circuit boards (PCB) to recover precious metals at Bangalore. DeitY also proposes to provide capital subsidy to authorized recyclers for processing e-waste similar to support available under the M-SIPS scheme of DeitY. Further recyclers using indigenous technology could be given additional advantage.

DeitY seeks views and suggestion to address the e-waste issues both in term of technology development as well as policy initiatives.

Comments should be received by 10th February, 2015.

Dear Modi Sir, I was delighted to see you as our PM and expected several drastic steps from your government. But, to our surprise nothing has been changed to benefit a common man since these 9 months or so. You are only giving speeches and still I think you are feeling that you are in opposition or contesting the election. Please see the reality. We just wanted clean roads, less traffic, water electricity, education & medicine with cheaper rates. But nothing has been started yet When the change

There are a number of economically important plants and trees which are not widely cultivated in India. For example Olive trees,Tulip flowers,Oats and a number of fruit bearing plants.Suitability of climate and soil for cultivation of such crops/plants to be identified. In a large country like India there may be regions suitable for cultivation of them.Diversification of agriculture will help Indians to earn more from it.

Hi, Is there any forum where i can share my thoughts on the upcoming budget? As part of capital formation in the economy and making capital markets developed and liquid, I had ideas on taxation of various investment instruments, If any one knows an appropriate forum, then do let me know. Thx

The E waste should be collected by all local bodies and handed over to authorised recyclers. The precious metals like gold, platinum etc should be removed and reused. Self help groups can contribute in collection and handover under each local body. Standardisation of mobile chargers across all models can reduce the waste. The approved recyclers should have proper environmental friendly methods in recycling, should not pose any health hazard to the people involved.
