Electronic waste (e-waste) creates a global crisis due to environmental degradation. India, as a growing economy, is facing serious challenges in managing the volume of generated e-waste due to lack of environmental awareness and socio-economic issues. Major concern of e-waste management in India is its recycling undertaken by non-formal sector not adhering to health and environmental norms.

While e-waste poses a problem for the environment it is also a source of valuable resources and contains a number of precious metal and mineral resources, which are available in very limited quantities in nature.

While Ministry of Environment and Forests and Climate Change is involved in enacting laws, guidelines referring to e-waste and has formulated the E-Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2010 wrt safe handling of e-waste, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) has addressed indigenous technology development through its R&D efforts to recycle e-waste and extract pressure resources following environment and health norms.

In this direction DeitY has initiated a demonstration plant to showcase its developed technology of processing printed circuit boards (PCB) to recover precious metals at Bangalore. DeitY also proposes to provide capital subsidy to authorized recyclers for processing e-waste similar to support available under the M-SIPS scheme of DeitY. Further recyclers using indigenous technology could be given additional advantage.

DeitY seeks views and suggestion to address the e-waste issues both in term of technology development as well as policy initiatives.

Comments should be received by 10th February, 2015.

Dear Mr. Prime Minister. As a well wisher, I understand that many of the initiatives taken by the prime minister and his government will take time to bear fruit. However, please have the prime minister start touring villages and urban ‘bastis’ on a regular basis. The people of India need a re-assurance that Modiji is still working for them. Pushing such tours 6-months down the line will not be able to replete this political capital to the same level after it depletes below a certain level.

While travelling by train what we find is lot of filth in both side of tracks particularly on outskirts which is not a very pleasant view for any any one. This can be overcome if plants like rose, sunflower, marigold are planted on these barren patches which will not only be a pleasant site but will be commercial viable also as these flowers have readymade market and will give employment to good number of people.

Namaskar, In veiw of Tree ratio in india, my govt. and every citizen should take inatative step to increase tree plantation in india. Day by day trees are cutting every where this will create huge and major impact on nature. This is the wirte time to motivate maximum tree plantation in evry open space. The govt should compalsory schools and colleges for each boy and girl plnat one tree srounding area. If this making habbit think, the comming future is Greenery and healthier. Thanks

CCE pattern should not be applicable to children who are going to enter in IX and XI class from 2015-16 session. Alternative effective pattern should be applicable to them.

I think recycling is the viable option to curtail sold toxicity because of Sn, Pb and Cu. The first effort should be to prevent and the other is to use another alternative than metallic wire lfor example DNA computing must replace the existing ones. In order to replace the polymer e-wastes, we need to replace it by the cellulose polymer so that it could be easily dissolved into the soil.
