Digital Locker is one of the key initiatives under the Digital India Programme. A beta version (http://digitallocker.gov.in) of the same has been released on 10th Feb. 2015, by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Govt. of India.

Digital Locker is aimed at minimizing the usage of physical documents and enable sharing of e-documents across agencies. The sharing of the e-documents will be done through registered repositories thereby ensuring the authenticity of the documents online. Residents can also upload their own electronic documents and digitally sign them using the e-sign facility. These digitally signed documents can be shared with Government organizations or other entities.

Key features of the Digital Locker System are:

• 10 MB of free space in digital locker to residents to access their documents through Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) and also securely store e-documents.
• e-sign online service to digitally sign documents

Residents are invited to use the Beta version of the Digital Locker System and provide suggestions and feedback on the same. Suggestions are also invited on the use cases for services which can be additionally provided by the Digital Locker System.

Aadhar was intended only to supply our data to foreign linked companies. Hosting services are offered cheap by foreign nations just to get our data. If only the government had spent the millions, it spent for aadhar, for a good cause like setting up data centres in India to provide hosting services cheap in india, it would have been better. But then how can the government officials supply data to foreigners? I am constrained to question the integrity of those behind aadhar project.

Please don't subscribe to Aadhar. Those who recommend Aadhar are ignorant. Data is collected, processed and stored by UIDAI using foreign linked companies as Registrars. Let the government come with a citizen card for which data should be collected, processed and stored by government department like post office directly without any private participation. Data should be stored in Government servers located in India under the Government. Till then NO AADHAR. SCRAP AADHAR SAVE INDIA

See the dubious idea. They insist on Aadhar by UIDAi. Just flouting Supreme Court's order. You want to make sure that we give our data to UIDAI - having foreign links. Shame. Why don't you have a purely governmental system rather than the foreign linked UIDAI ?

It pains me to see how GMO is conquering India. Sir, please take some action otherwise these big multinationals will kill our farmers, in addition to playing with the health of our children which they already are doing. Here is a link of another concerned human being http://www.rense.com/general82/rice.htm. This is for rice, but this is for all crops. I esp have concern for rapeseed. My kid just recovered from the poison of rapeseed oil (canola), it is a poison, unlike claimed by Mr Javdekar

also if the id can be provided to students they can also strt keep up of thier digital certificates online from the very begining of thier career. In case govt. is able to issue all the certifiates online as we provide offline certificates. from schools and colleges then this eradicate the need of photo copies and burden on students and job aspirant from carrying their orginal as well as photocopies which will ultimately save a lot of money and trees.
