Digital Locker is one of the key initiatives under the Digital India Programme. A beta version (http://digitallocker.gov.in) of the same has been released on 10th Feb. 2015, by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Govt. of India.

Digital Locker is aimed at minimizing the usage of physical documents and enable sharing of e-documents across agencies. The sharing of the e-documents will be done through registered repositories thereby ensuring the authenticity of the documents online. Residents can also upload their own electronic documents and digitally sign them using the e-sign facility. These digitally signed documents can be shared with Government organizations or other entities.

Key features of the Digital Locker System are:

• 10 MB of free space in digital locker to residents to access their documents through Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) and also securely store e-documents.
• e-sign online service to digitally sign documents

Residents are invited to use the Beta version of the Digital Locker System and provide suggestions and feedback on the same. Suggestions are also invited on the use cases for services which can be additionally provided by the Digital Locker System.

My suggestions. Hereafter all the departments should upload the certificates to Digital Locker if requested by someone. There must be provision for conversion and authorization of already issued certificates.

In many of the companies they will take all your educational cirtificates so that we cannot apply for any other jobs. If this system is in practice the Bond Syatem in Pvt companies will end. Anyone can apply for any job and attened any interview. But who will authorize all my certificates and Marksheets? Who will coordinate various departments of State and Central Govt? Even if implemented how much time it will take for everyone in India? How we will educate rural people of India about this?
