The Khadi and Village Industries Commission Act, 1956, represents one of India’s most significant legislative foundations for the promotion of rural industries and the preservation of traditional skills. The Act was originally passed with the objective of developing khadi and village industries in rural areas, generating sustainable employment opportunities, and strengthening local economies through decentralized production. Over the years, the Act has undergone several amendments to keep pace with changing economic realities, development goals, and administrative needs. These amendments were aimed at enhancing the efficiency, autonomy, and accountability of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). Understanding these amendments helps us appreciate how government policies evolve to support rural livelihoods and the nation’s socio-economic progress.

Honourable members of the government,
The initiative taken by the the MSME ministry is very appreciative , all the efforts made by them will definitely support the welfare of skilled craftsmen. These changes will undoubtedly boost the Khadhi and Village Industries sector , empowering artisans and promoting sustainable rural development.
But I guess along with these implementations government has to bring awareness about the cultural heritage that khadhi holds and try to bring some social change among the people like by collaborating with influencers for easy reach so that khadhi could get strong brand identity. And also organizing events to showcase the versatility and beauty of khadhi and by allowing the craftsmen to share their experiences can also bring great outreach. As for any change people's participation is very much important and necessary .
Finally ,Thanking Government ,these amendments demonstrate your commitment towards preserving our culture

The amendments mainly aim to modernize and strengthen the khadi and village industries sector. They update the definition of village industries, allow the use of new technology and clean energy, increase expert and inclusive representation in the Commission, and align village units with MSME rules. The changes help improve production, support small rural enterprises, promote digitalization, and boost marketing and exports of khadi.

To institutionalize the development of the Khadi and Village Industries (KVI) sector, the Government of India first constituted the All India Khadi and Village Industries Board in 1953. This marked the beginning of a structured approach to promote rural entrepreneurship, self-employment, and the traditional cottage industry. Over time, the Board evolved into the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), which continues to support artisans and rural enterprises through financial assistance, skill development, and market promotion, aiming to strengthen the rural economy and preserve India’s rich heritage of handmade products.
