Section 161 of Railway act indicates “If any person driving or leading a vehicle is negligent in crossing an unmanned level crossing, he shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to one year.”

Section 131 of the Motor Vehicle Act indicates that “Every driver of a motor vehicle at the approach of any unguarded railway level crossing shall cause the vehicle to stop and the driver of the vehicle shall cause the conductor or cleaner or attendant or any other person in the vehicle to walk up to the level crossing and ensure that no train or trolley is approaching from either side and then pilot the motor vehicle across such level crossing, and where no conductor or cleaner or attendant or any other person is available in the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle shall get down from the vehicle himself to ensure that no train or trolley is approaching from either side before the railway track is crossed”

However due to non-following of relevant rules by the road users, many accidents are occurring resulting in loss of precious life  at unmanned level crossings.

Suggest solutions for reducing accidents at unmanned level crossings.

We should get at least 1 guard near a rail crossing even in rural areas.. So there would be no accidents. If someone gives bribe to that guard, there should be a CCTV camera on every rail crossing. He would be caught immediately and he should get strict punishment.

I think that on every crossing, there should be worker whose responsibility is to open and close the road for people. But if a person tries to cross the railway tracks, the person should be punished. But then also, if the accident occurred, the driver should not get any relief from the government, and the driver should be fined with a huge amount of fine for the destruction of public property and the licence of the driver should be discarded.

Technology do exist, whats lacking in our system is implementation, Many projects have been developed to address this problem, but none of them practically implemented. https://www.azatrax.com/ http://www.dnatechindia.com/Projects/Synopsis-and-Abstract/Automatic-Railway-Gate-Control.html http://www.ijareeie.com/upload/2014/february/43_Acy.pdf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN5GHwan6S8 http://ijcttjournal.org/Volume4/issue-7/IJCTT-V4I7P129.pdf https://www.classle.net/projects/project-ide

There is a need to develop electronics hub or sectors in India everywhere. Because electronics can only help in the development of India's technological growth. But according to me there are so many skilled or unskilled people who are being forced to work only in customer care sectors. I think this scenario should be changed. And all skilled people should work in their own field of interest. Then only India will grow up. Remaining people can be trained by Govt. in low cost in some centres.

Major problem for passengers travelling during nights is that they don't know which station they have crossed and what is the next station. We should have display board in each compartment displaying current position of train and the next stop as in Metro trains. This makes the passengers journey much more comfortable

1. extend RO-RO facility to private vehicles or build tourist trains with semi passenger and semi- RO-RO facilities to boost tourism.

It is high time that with the use of technology and alarm systems we can have all the unmanned railway crossings automatic so that these accidents can be avoided. Having manned crossings is a waste of labour, time and resources. A crossing can be timed accordingly by having an automatic bar before 3 minutes of the arrival of train and then the lever can be brought down. We can designs an automatic system for all manned and unmanned crossing systems with fool proof deisning.
