The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, handles a wide range of responsibilities, with internal security, border management, Centre-State relations, administration of Union Territories, management of Central Armed Police Forces, and disaster management among its most significant. 

The Ministry keeps a continuous watch on the internal security situation, issues relevant advisories, shares intelligence inputs, and provides manpower, financial support, guidance and expertise to State Governments for the maintenance of security, peace and harmony, while respecting the constitutional powers of the States.
