Every morning, he reads newspapers and online reports, identifies people facing hardships, contacts journalists, verifies their situations, and personally visits them to provide support. He has responded to over 200 human-interest stories and undertaken more than 400 humanitarian interventions across 40+ districts in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. Travelling over 3 lakh kilometres, he has directly supported approximately 5,000 people and indirectly benefited nearly 18,000. With great respect, I wish to highlight the growing need for specialized healthcare for India’s older adults. By 2050, India is expected to have around 347 million people aged 60+. Geriatricians are specially trained to manage multimorbidity, polypharmacy, frailty, falls, dementia, nutrition, functional decline and healthy ageing. Although MD Geriatric Medicine is an established specialty, awareness remains limited among the public, medical students and healthcare institutions. India is producing trained geriatricians, but dedicated Geriatric Medicine services and career opportunities remain limited. I humbly request that Geriatric Medicine and healthy ageing be highlighted through Mann Ki Baat, introducing families to the role of a geriatrician and encouraging hospitals to develop dedicated geriatric services.
