Shaheed Bhagat Singh was not only a symbol of courage and patriotism but also a young thinker who believed in learning and contributing to society. His ideas continue to inspire generations of Indians to take an active role in shaping the nation.
Shaheed Bhagat Singh believed that ideas are more powerful than weapons. Today, how can the power of ideas, knowledge, and innovation be harnessed by the youth to shape the India of tomorrow?
Reflect on how values such as patriotism, courage, critical thinking, social responsibility, and active citizenship can empower young Indians to contribute towards a stronger, more progressive, and developed India.

Bhagat Singh was a staunch rationalist who refused to accept traditions blindly, arguing in his essay Why I Am an Atheist that progress requires challenging and critiquing old faiths and demanding logical explanations over blind rituals. Guided by his independent convictions, he possessed the immense mental strength to stand completely alone, even splitting from older revolutionary methods to form the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). Far from being chaotic, his defining weapon was an unshakeable calmness and patience, which he demonstrated through structured, disciplined reading in prison and by calmly surrendering after the Central Assembly bombing to strategically use his trial to spread his message across India.

Bhagat Singh's ideas hold up remarkably well, and a few strands stand out to me as genuinely ahead of their time:
Ideas over individuals. His famous line — that you can kill a person but not an idea — was a sharp piece of political thinking. He understood that colonial power rested as much on psychological submission as on physical force, and that revolution had to work on minds, not just institutions. That's a durable insight, applicable well beyond independence movements.
He was a serious intellectual, not just an activist. In jail, awaiting execution, he was reading Marx, Bakunin, Trotsky, and European history, and writing essays like "Why I Am an Atheist." That combination — willingness to act, paired with rigorous, self-questioning thought — is rarer than people assume. Most revolutionaries of his era leaned on ideology as certainty; Singh treated it as something to keep testing.

*Shaheed Bhagat Singh*
Shaheed Bhagat Singh is one of the greatest freedom fighters of India. He was born on 28th September 1907 in Banga village, Punjab. From his childhood he was very brave and was deeply affected by the British rule in India.
Bhagat Singh was not in favour of only non-violence. He believed that to get freedom, we have to fight strongly. When the British killed Lala Lajpat Rai, Bhagat Singh took revenge by killing John Saunders to give justice to him.
He is also remembered for the Assembly Bomb incident. He and Batukeshwar Dutt threw a bomb in the Central Assembly in Delhi. The aim was not to kill anyone but to wake up the British government. After that he did not run away and courted arrest.
In jail, he went on a hunger strike for 116 days to get better treatment for Indian prisoners. He was only 23 years old when he was hanged on 23rd March 1931 along with Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Lt. Bhagat Singh: An Ideal for the Youth and a Symbol of National Unity
The freedom that we enjoy today was not obtained easily. It came through sacrifice, struggle, courage and immense suffering. Therefore, we must understand its value and protect it—not only for ourselves, but also for the generations that will come after us.
The youth of India should take inspiration from Bhagat Singh—not simply by remembering his name, but by adopting his spirit of learning, courage, questioning, responsibility and service to the nation.
Our future should not be decided only by politicians or political circumstances. The future of India will ultimately be shaped by the character, knowledge, actions and responsibilities of its citizens.
Bhagat Singh gave his life for India's freedom. Our responsibility is to give our knowledge, character and efforts to India's future.
