Ministry of Commerce and Industry
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is responsible for formulating and implementing policies relating to India's foreign trade, industrial growth, and internal commerce. It functions through two key Departments:
- Department of Commerce – Formulates and implements India's foreign trade policy, manages multilateral and bilateral trade relations, drives export promotion measures, and oversees the development and regulation of export-oriented industries.
- Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) – Formulates industrial policy, facilitates and promotes Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), administers intellectual property rights, drives Ease of Doing Business reforms, and supports initiatives such as Startup India and the National Single Window System.
Together, the two Departments work to boost India's exports, attract investment, strengthen domestic industry, and improve the country's global trade competitiveness.
