Digital Locker is one of the key initiatives under the Digital India Programme. A beta version (http://digitallocker.gov.in) of the same has been released on 10th Feb. 2015, by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Govt. of India.

Digital Locker is aimed at minimizing the usage of physical documents and enable sharing of e-documents across agencies. The sharing of the e-documents will be done through registered repositories thereby ensuring the authenticity of the documents online. Residents can also upload their own electronic documents and digitally sign them using the e-sign facility. These digitally signed documents can be shared with Government organizations or other entities.

Key features of the Digital Locker System are:

• 10 MB of free space in digital locker to residents to access their documents through Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) and also securely store e-documents.
• e-sign online service to digitally sign documents

Residents are invited to use the Beta version of the Digital Locker System and provide suggestions and feedback on the same. Suggestions are also invited on the use cases for services which can be additionally provided by the Digital Locker System.

Recently there was a declaration in Economic Times that the Maharashtra Gazette printing press at Charni Road, Mumbai, has started the online process for changing names etc.

But when I visited their site... there is no such facility available at all. I hope authorities concerned will look into the matter.

If all immovable property ownership details are available at one place in a similar such digital locker with their loan details It will be very easy for Banks and other financial institutions to finalise new loans and multiple loans can not be taken on any property. On such site Tax collecting agencies can send information for paid or unpaid taxes. Registering agencies will have clear detail while registering transfers etc. In future litigation related with property will be fewer.

Residents can be allowed to keep the details/documents related with property Movable or immovable in their name for easy processing of loans or their reconveyance when the need be. If all loan information is kept connected with aadhar it will be easy to catch the defaulters. Provision of entering close relation aadhar number in a residents aadhar number may be made so that family size and house hold numbers may be confirmed.
