Talkathon on Road Safety

As part of the advocacy campaign for road safety, Road Safety Week is being observed from 11th to 16th January 2016. The theme for this year's Road Safety week is "Road Safety- Time for Action". In order to contribute to the cause by promoting the concept, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is organizing “Talkathon” with Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and Shipping, Shri Nitin Gadkari wherein the Minister will directly interact with twitterati by answering the questions posted with #AskonRoadSafety. The Talkathon programme is scheduled to be held on 11th January, 2016 from 6 PM onwards. The event will be live streamed on the Youtube channel of I&B Ministry- youtube.com/inbministry (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKvOlN6UmTU). The program would be live from National Media Centre, New Delhi. Over one lakh persons lose their lives every year in our country in road accidents, causing loss of human lives and property and trauma to the family of the deceased. Recognizing the severe impact of road accidents on global health, the UN General Assembly has adopted 2011-2020 as the Decade of Action for Road Safety and set a goal for reducing fatalities from road accidents by 50 percent during the period.
