शिक्षा का लक्ष्य यह भी था कि आध्यात्मिक मूल्यों का विकास हो। उस समय भौतिक सुविधाओं के विकास की ओर ध्यान देना किंचित भी आवश्यक नहीं था | उनका जीवन भौतिकता से मुक्त और आध्यात्मिकता में लिप्त रहता था।मानव प्रकृति की गोद से दूर नहीं रहता था।ऋषि की ख्याति के अनुरूप आश्रम चयन की सुविधा शिष्य के परिवार को रहती थी किन्तु आश्रम, धनवानों के आश्रम और निर्धनों के आश्रम में बंटे नहीं थे। राजा और रंक में किसी प्रकार का भेद नहीं था।

जीवन का उद्देश्य धर्म था। धर्ममय जीवन भौतिक उपलब्धियों से श्रेष्ठ माना जाता था। प्राचीन भारत का शिक्षा-दर्शन भी धर्म से ही प्रभावित था। शिक्षा का उद्देश्य धर्माचरण की वृत्ति जाग्रत करना था। शिक्षा, धर्म, अर्थ, काम और मोक्ष के लिए थी। धर्म का सर्वप्रथम स्थान था। धर्म से विपरीत होकर अर्थ लाभ करना मोक्ष प्राप्ति का मार्ग अवरुद्ध करना था। मोक्ष जीवन का सर्वोपरि लक्ष्य था और यही शिक्षा का भी अन्तिम लक्ष्य था।।

प्राचीन भारतीय जीवन-दर्शन धर्ममय था। जीवन के सभी कार्यकलाप धर्म से ओत-प्रोत थे, धर्म से नियंत्रित थे। धर्म द्वारा, धर्म के लिए और धर्ममय जीवन शैली प्राचीन भारत की विशेषता थी। प्राचीन युग की प्रधानता होने से राजनीति में हिंसा और शत्रुता, द्वेष और ईर्ष्या, परिग्रह और स्वार्थ का बहुल्य न होकर, प्रेम, सदाचार त्याग और अपरिग्रह महत्वपूर्ण थे।जीवन का आदर्श ‘वसुधैवकुटुम्बकम्’ था। जीवन का उद्देश्य धर्म था। धर्ममय जीवन भौतिक उपलब्धियों से श्रेष्ठ माना जाता था।

education for all since 1968 but still they could not achieve that why?
