Chennai - Smart City Challenge Talk

Corporation of Chennai has initiated the citizen consultation for Stage 2 of the "Smart City Mission" City Challenge through its website www.chennaicorpation.gov.in, Mygov Discussion Page, various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc.

As part of the process, Corporation of Chennai is organizing an online talk where different stakeholders of the city will be explained about the Smart City Mission.

A presentation with details about the Smart City Mission, Smart City Challenge (Including Vision, Goals, Area Based Development Plans & Pan City Initiatives) and how residents can participate in submitting their ideas shall be presented.

Citizens of Chennai may post their specific questions about the Smart City Chennai Mission on or before 13th October, 2015.

The session shall be chaired by:
Mr VikaramKapur, I.A.S. (Commissioner, Corporation of Chennai)

Other Key participants shall include:
Mr K.S. Kandasamy, I.A.S. (Deputy Commissioner (Work), Corporation of Chennai)
Representativesof the Consultants (JLL, TCE and TCL)
Other Technically Qualified Representatives from Corporation of Chennai

Venue: The event will be streamed live from Conference Hall, Corporation of Chennai, Ripon Building, Chennai

Under the leadership of corporation commissioner, a committee has to be formed to implement GIS Application comprising Roads, EB lines,Telephone Lines,Storm water drainage canal, water and sewerage pipelines to avoid unnecessary digging of roads by other agencies. The committee may be comprised with Chairman of EB,CGM of BSNL,MD of Metrowater.The implementation work may be given to the top 5 IT companies to develop and to maintain to safeguard govt assets and for efficient administration

Contd When an ambulance can reach within 15 mins from airport to hospital for organ harvest, I think our traffic dept can plan this too. This might be harsh but share autos and autos should be regularised. Most of the traffic is done by them and I propose it. Lane discipline cannot be followed in our city as our roads are narrow so we could propose certain roads for only cars, only buses etc. And finally they all meeting in a wider road.

Contd Smart Toilets shall be provided at each street with automatic cleaning function which is a must in a place like ours. Roads shall not be dug before 1 yr of laying. Atleast every dept should plan the digging works 1 yrs in advance. 3. Traffic - More than pollution, traffic shall be controlled. Proper one ways, different timings of schools and offices, traffic changes mornings and evenings can change the traffic condition of the city. Proper planning is required for the same.

Contd Can be made functional by cleaning it and connecting it to the sea. Through which we can provide ferry rides for faster transportation and also as a major fresh water source. The main drawback of this cleaning would be to plug the cause rather than keep cleaning the canal. The canal cannot be cleaned unless we plug the source. Measures for the above shall be made for this. Moreover closed bins shall be placed all over the city, most of the bins are just overflowing with waste.

I wish to propose 3 major proposals for smart cities 1. Energy saving - All street lights, traffic signals, police booths, common toilets etc can be powered from solar energy. We have lot of options for this in solar, I m working as an engineering consultant and we suggest an array of technologies. 2. Civic sense - The Buckingham canal

AN AUTONAGAR MUST BE ESTABLISHED OUTSIDE CITY LIMITS AND ALL OLD SPARE PART SHOPS IN PUDUPET AND KOMALEESWARENPET MUST BE SHIFTED THERE.THEY ARE POLLUTING THE AREA BY BREAKING OLD VEHICLES, BURNING WIRES,DISPLAYING OLD PARTS OUTSIDE SHOPS ON PLATFORMS,PARKING OLD CONDEMNED VEHICLES ON THE ROAD(FOR EXAMPLE SOUTH COOVAM ROAD,DAMS ROAD DIVISION 63 OF CHENNAI CORPORATION).ITS A HINDRANCE TO PUBLIC AS WELL AS MOVEMENT OF TRAFFIC.LIKE IN ANDHRAPRADESH AUTO NAGAR SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED OUTSIDE CITY.

i wish to submit that as protest square in western countries, a protest square should be constructed or protest or procession should be allowed only inside beach sands or beach road.Allowing such protest in busy roads affects ordinary people ,traffic got struck and movement of essential services like ambulance,public transport ect.,affected.SO BUILD SEPARATE PROTEST SQUARE OR ELSE ALLOW IT INSIDE MARINA BEACH.

Install solar panel on rooftop of vehicles. At parking make a metallic lane on street so that it works as +ve and -ve terminals for the solar panel. A provision, when a person parks his car and give a command so that a metallic strip from his vehicle touches the metallic lane and completes the circuit. These are connected with solar cells who gets charged and the DC should converts into AC and can be transmitted . It will add great benefit to our environment & to develop smart cities.

If we create roads such that it absorbs water , then we can achieve following things: 1. Avoid water logging 2. Increase ground water level 3. Increase life of roads 4. Improve city temperature 5. Clean rivers
