Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is responsible for formulating and implementing policies relating to information technology, electronics manufacturing, internet governance, and digital services in India. It drives the country's digital economy by promoting the IT and electronics industries, ensuring cybersecurity, and regulating online intermediaries and digital media.

The Ministry administers flagship initiatives such as Digital India, aimed at transforming India into a digitally empowered society, and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, which promotes domestic electronics manufacturing and reduces import dependence. It also oversees e-Governance projects, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) — the technology backbone of Indian Government services — and regulatory frameworks such as the IT Rules governing social media and digital platforms.

Through its focus on innovation, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure, MeitY plays a central role in strengthening India's position as a global hub for electronics manufacturing and technology-driven governance.
