Statutory Bodies
Statutory Bodies in India are institutions established through Acts of Parliament or State Legislatures to perform specific functions and responsibilities within the framework of the law. These bodies are created to address specialised areas of governance, regulation, administration, public welfare and development, and operate in accordance with the statutory provisions under which they are constituted.
Statutory Bodies play an important role in strengthening institutional governance, transparency, accountability and effective implementation of laws and policies. They undertake functions such as regulation of specific sectors, monitoring and enforcement, protection of rights and interests, dispute resolution, advisory responsibilities and delivery of specialised public services, as mandated by their respective statutes.
Each body is governed by its respective legislation and carries out functions assigned under the law to support effective governance, public interest and the country's administrative and regulatory framework.
