Ministry of Food Processing Industries
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries is responsible for the formulation and implementation of policies for the food processing sector, within overall national priorities and objectives. It acts as a catalyst for bringing in more investment into this sector, guiding and helping the industry and creating a conducive environment for healthy growth of the food processing industry.
The Ministry aims to create the critical infrastructure needed to bridge gaps in the supply chain from farm to consumer, fund value addition of agricultural produce, minimize wastage through better storage, transportation, and processing infrastructure, and encourage the induction of modern technology and R&D in the sector.
Its key flagship schemes include:
- Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) – Supports the creation of modern infrastructure such as Mega Food Parks, Integrated Cold Chains, and Agro Processing Clusters.
- PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme – Provides credit-linked support to micro food processing units across the country.
- Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing (PLISFPI) – Encourages the creation of global food manufacturing champions and boosts processed food exports.
