Ministry of AYUSH
The Ministry of AYUSH is responsible for the development, propagation, and regulation of India's traditional systems of medicine — Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy. It was elevated from a department into a standing ministry in November 2014, with an expanded mandate to promote yoga practice and Ayurvedic products alongside the other traditional systems.
The Ministry's flagship initiative, the National AYUSH Mission (NAM), aims to provide cost-effective AYUSH services with universal access by upgrading AYUSH hospitals and dispensaries, co-locating AYUSH facilities at primary and community health centres, and strengthening AYUSH educational institutions and drug-testing infrastructure.
The Ministry also supports the cultivation of medicinal plants through the National Medicinal Plants Board, promotes integrative and preventive healthcare, and drives India's growing Heal in India initiative for medical value travel — strengthening the country's position as a global hub for traditional and holistic wellness systems.
