About
India’s semiconductor journey is being shaped through strategic initiatives by Government of India.
Launched in 2022, Semicon India Programme (Semicon 1.0) aims to build a robust and resilient semiconductor and display ecosystem in India. The Programme is implemented by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Building on the successful implementation of the first phase of Semicon India Programme ( Semicon 1.0), Union Cabinet has approved the next phase i.e. Semicon 2.0 with an outlay of ₹1,27,500 on 15.07.2026, to further strengthen the country's semiconductor manufacturing, design, equipment, materials, R&D and talent ecosystem and to accelerate the development of a robust and resilient semiconductor ecosystem in India.
Marking the next phase of India's semiconductor journey, the scheme is focused on six strategic pillars:
- Design of Chips
- Machines and Materials
- Setting up more Fabs
- Further Strengthening the ATMP/OSAT industry
- Research & Development
- Talent Development
