For the realization of the Hon PM Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, we need to develop Science & Technology (S&T) interventions that identify the problems that lack resolution and provide suitable solutions. We need to develop & promote locally-driven enterprises & services that resolve to work for a better quality of life.

For the same, the Science for Equity Empowerment and Development (SEED), Division of Department of Science & Technology (DST) are working towards bridging the above gap by creating a virtual platform Science-Society-Setu for Aatmanirbhar Bharat (S34ANB).

This initiative intends to align Technology, Knowledge, Skills and Resources at local levels to strengthen the pillars of ‘Social Infrastructure’ and ‘Technology Driven System’. It aims to reform a systemic, planned, integrated, inter-connected & futuristic process through technological interference and ease of doing business at a local level to achieve self-reliance.

The initiative is an online platform for collaborations between the solution seekers and solution providers. The web clinics will highlight emerging technologies and their utilities to augment the technological self-sufficiency for grass-root requirements. The Web Clinic is inclined towards identifying new ideas and partners for evolving SEED schemes directed towards indigenous technologies and effective delivery mechanism.

During each session, the panel of experts would provide a feasibility report on (i) possible forward linkages between NGOs/CBOs & knowledge institutions and (ii) guidelines to way-forward. The resulting ideas and recommendations will be supported through SEED Division of DST for participatory action research projects through its ongoing schemes/programs or in collaboration with other relevant divisions and funding agencies.

The virtual interaction series Science-Society-Setu for Aatmanirbhar Bharat is being launched, implemented and managed using India Science, Technology and Innovation (ISTI) Web Portal of Vigyan Prasar.

The initiative is being jointly organized by DST, in collaboration with the office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA), Vigyan Prasar, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Accelerating Growth of New India’s Innovations (AGNIi), World Wide Fund for Nature India (WWF-India), and Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization (HESCO).

The Web Clinic will primarily focus on five sectors of Aatmanirbhar Bharat namely:

● Agriculture and allied sector
● Economic Sector
● Social Infrastructure
● Cross-sectoral Areas

Web Clinic should spread social infrastructure all over India as still after 73 years of independence there are no proper social infrastructures.

Q4.Social infrastructure has been included in Web Clinic. It is a welcome move. But there are challenges. There are already existing infrastructure.Building new infrastructure is difficult job.Because the existing structure could be in populated area or could be in traffic zone area.Dismatlinf these structures and building new structure would be difficult. For this, the outskirts area has to be chosen. The web clinic has to identify this.

To make self sufficient India Govt. need to provide technical and infrastructure support to the industry. For example the toy industry in India lacks required quality product because new generation toys have two major aspects, first it has innovativedesign that is safe to babies and kids and has non toxic chemicals. Second it has electronic circuit, sound, light, touch, and remote control elements which needs special skills. Government shall provide funds to college to help create model of toys.

Whether the indigenous technology has been adopted already in any part of the country is not known. If adopted,it could become a model to adopt via web clinic as the merits and demerits are already known.

This may to out of context but I feel a very important point to convey.
We need to create a canal (like Suez canal) in the sea between Pamban and Ramanathapuram. We can't touch the sea area between Rameshwaram and Srilanka as Ram Setu is there. This will give a big boost for sea route commerce across the APAC region.

Web clinic has primarily chosen 5 sectors. There should be experts in the respective sectors to provide solutions to solution seekers.

binding of society with science n vice a versa is really a good idea. Mere science or mere society can't survive. An efficient doctor or an engineer is of no use if he lacks value moreover they can harm us as well!. and noble person without science again of no use...

Despite being the lowest consumption of various resources as compared to other developed countries, India is following global targets set for environmental related issues. Fulfilling aspirations for increasing population and defending environmental targets are two conflicting matters. There has to be a trade off between development and environment protection. Science-Society-Setu may reduce this divide
