While laying storm water drains in a city it is important to design its cover slab and drain access manhole covers to withstand maximum Axial Load of vehicles plying in the locality. When local vehicle's max. Axial Load is lesser than Firetender, fire tender's max Axial Load shall be considered for the design of cover slab. The storm water drain contract agreement shall include rerouting of existing utility service lines in the area of construction. Care must be taken to ensure power cables and storm water drains are laid on either side of the road. Always prefer to lay storm drain on pedestrian footpath to enable less wear & tear, to ensure water chute pipes are placed along the kerb stones and to eliminate vehicle movement over drain. Household water & sewer lines across the drain shall be properly laid & ensure no leakage, no water stagnation permitted.
