As a part of the Smart Cities Mission, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Surat Smart City Development Limited (SSCDL) aimed to setup an institution to catalyze innovation and startup ecosystem to promote growth, entrepreneurship, investment and employment opportunities in Surat and make it a global Smart City. Hence, SURATi iLAB was formed. It is a Section 8 company registered under Companies Act 2013 as a wholly owned subsidiary of SSCDL. SURATi iLAB is a first of its kind initiative in the country by any Urban Local Body (ULB).

SURATi iLAB will act as a facilitator for Innovation, Incubation, Start-ups and Trade activities by becoming an aggregator of networks of innovators, entrepreneurs, venture funders, mentors, associates and academic and research institutions. It aspires for a digital intervention to capitalize on the new sources of economy whilst maintaining Surat’s dominance in Diamond and Textile industries by promoting innovations in the emerging areas of Internet of Things (IoT), 3D printing, Blockchain, Robotics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, etc.

The lab will offer state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities including coworking space with high speed internet connectivity, hi-tech lab, auditorium, conference rooms, cafeteria, library, etc. along with access to groups of hands-on mentors and functional experts, and engagement with various stakeholders and accelerator programs.
