Jhansi Municipal Corporation has been selected through a competitive process for SMART City Mission initiative of Government of India. In the next phase, Jhansi city has to compete with 98 other cities from across the country to make it into the Top 20 cities which will be taken up for the first round of funding, for the financial year 2015-16.

Rani Lakshmi Bai, the leading figure of the Revolt of 1857, was the queen of Jhansi. It would not be wrong to say that Jhansi is popular because of Rani Lakshmi Bai. Jhansi is a historic city of northern India, in the region of Bundelkhand on the banks of the Pahuj or Betwa River. Jhansi is well connected to all other major towns in Uttar Pradesh by road and railway networks.

Citizens and stakeholders of Jhansi are requested to post their views and suggestions on how to make Jhansi a Smart City. The citizens may organize their thoughts on the following topics:

A. Area Development Plan

1. Retrofitting of the existing area (Planning and improvement of infrastructure in an existing built-up area);
2. Redevelopment of the area (Replacement of existing built-up area and co-creation of new layout with enhanced infrastructure);
3. Greenfield development (planning and development in new areas):

B. Pan-city Improvement Plan is looking forward for valuable suggestions from all the citizens of Jhansi

1. Underground Electricity
2. Transportation and mobility: Connectivity, pedestrian facilities, bicycle facilities, parking, signals and flyovers, road quality, public transport system.
3. Water supply: Quality and quantity of water supply, metering, operation and management, services
4. Environment and sustainability: Water body conservation, rainwater harvesting, cleanliness and ambience, tree cover/plantation, open spaces and parks, pollution control.
5. Safety, security, and disaster management: Lighting on roads and in public places, woman and child safety, senior citizen safety, CCTV-based city surveillance, disaster management and response mechanism
6. Housing: Encroachments and slum rehabilitation, affordable housing
7. Solid waste management: Cleanliness in public places, dustbins, waste collection coverage and system, transportation, treatment and recycling
8. Sewage: Collection, treatment and recycling/reuse
9. Storm water drainage: Water logging, discharge of drains and disposal
11. Sanitation: Public toilets, maintenance and services
12. E-governance and citizen/tourist facilities
13. Robust IT connectivity and digitalisation
14. Health services
15. Education
16. Other areas of improvement
